The Art of Connection: My First LA Art Show!

This March I drove to Los Angeles and had the honor of participating as a vendor at the one-year anniversary event for Silk & Sugar Co. Silk & Sugar was founded by fellow poet Samantha Sao and her business partner, Celly Cruz! They are two incredible first-generation entrepreneurs and creatives dedicated to bringing people together. Through their events, they cultivate a space that celebrates creativity and fosters meaningful connections. From open mics to curated art showcases and more, their mission is to create experiences that uplift artists and build community. This anniversary event was nothing short of extraordinary, an unforgettable night that I will cherish for years to come.

A First-Time Vendor Experience

For the first time, I had the opportunity to table and showcase my work at an art show, and the experience was nothing short of incredible! The support and encouragement I received from attendees filled me with gratitude. There is something so special about putting your art into the world and seeing it resonate with people in real-time. I am beyond thankful to everyone who stopped by my table, engaged with my work, and showed their support.

Embodying the Art of Connection

Beyond being a vendor, I had the chance to witness an array of breathtaking performances and connect with so many talented artists. The night was infused with electric energy, soulful musical performances, poets delivering powerful words, and creatives sharing their passions in the most beautiful ways. But beyond the performances and artistic displays, we quite literally embodied the art of connection. Each interaction, conversation, and shared moment was a testament to the power of art as a unifying force. Art brought us together, not just as individuals sharing a space, but as a collective creating something bigger than ourselves. The bonds formed that night felt organic, meaningful, and deeply inspiring, and creatives sharing their passions in the most beautiful ways. Each performance was moving, each artist unique, and the collective atmosphere was one of love, gratitude, and celebration. It’s rare to be in a room where you can physically feel the creative synergy, and this event was one of those magical moments.

The environment that Sam and Celly have cultivated through Silk & Sugar Co. is one of authenticity and passion. Their ability to bring people together through artistic expression is truly inspiring, and I am so grateful to have been a part of it. This experience left me feeling energized and excited for what’s ahead, the connections made and future opportunities to come.

LA: A City of Endless Surprises

No trip to LA is complete without unexpected adventures, delicious food, and memorable moments. I had an incredible stay in Venice, indulged in some unexpectedly mouthwatering bites, and, as always, fell in love with the city’s strange, fascinating, and endlessly exciting energy. Though I already miss my people, I know this is only the beginning of something bigger. Until next time, LA.

Here’s to more art, more connection, and more memorable nights like this one!
